Important Things To Know Before Hiring Your Roofing Contractor

What are your criteria for hiring roofing contractors? Do you have a list of questions ready or do you just go with your gut feeling? One of the things you should consider when hiring a roofing contractor is if they are local.

In a previous post, we’ve mentioned the importance of that. However, there is more information that you should know before finalizing your hire. Here’s a checklist of the things you should know about your roofing contractor before hiring them.

Insurance Coverage

When your local roofing contractor carries insurance, that can greatly help you if there is accidental damage. Inquire about the insurance coverage and make sure to know the details before hiring them.

Additional Warranties

Do they offer additional warranties about their workmanship? What happens when there is a defective shingle? Do they replace it prorated? Additionally, are there additional labor charges because of it? You should learn to clear out all these things before agreeing to work with them.

Which Materials Are Going To Be Used

Although you have the freedom to choose what materials to use, you may still ask for their suggestions. After all, they are local to the area so they may be more knowledgeable in what materials your roof will need to give your home adequate protection against the elements.

They may also have a list of products or brands that they use or prefer to use. Check them and make sure that those are reliable as well.

A Written Estimate

When looking for a roofing contractor. One of the factors that could affect your decision is the cost of their services. You could ask them and they can give you a verbal estimate. However, it would be best to get a written estimate. Additionally, the estimate should also more or less have a breakdown so that you’ll know why they would charge such an amount.

List Of Reference

A roofing company can tell you all you want to hear. Let their previous works speak for themselves by asking them a list of references so you can call them up. You can also ask to see some of their previous works.
